That 1 guy ruins it for everyone on both sides. Just be nice and it will take you far. Pull out the hard hat if civility fails, but be factual not emotional. I look at as educate & communicate, not berate.

I hate that there are asshats among us. As a whole, in my department especially, we strive to do the right thing all the time and the fine folks I work with have great instincts and do very good police work. The whole "detaining someone for OC" has always made me cringe, and I admit that I struggle sometimes to believe it actually happens. It isn't logical to do that, so I have a hard time trying to figure out why someone would.

This is my point. 99% of you are very professional.

Lake County is little Chiraq, Every Chief of police and even the County Sheriff are anti-gun. The rank and file are much better than ten years ago.

When I first started OCing I was accosted 5 times in a period of 2 years.

All the Lake County Sheriff/Town guys I know are very pro 2A, but maybe I surround myself with fine folks. Even my Dentist (offices in Lake and Porter) goes shooting with me. :)

...if you are IDd when it’s not required,... Officers are not required to tell you the reason for your stop ....you may find yourself in jail.
I understand the thought process. Edited to highlight a point.

This is unnerving, because the door is open to operating as a police state, and upheld by the Supreme Court.

    2) Do you have to show if a passenger in a vehicle and the driver is stopped for a traffic infraction?

The stop and identify was upheld in the Supreme Court.

As for being a passenger, and only the driver is being investigated for an infraction, assuming there's no probable cause for any other investigation, such as plain view or smelling marijuana...

    4th amendment to the Constitution
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

I'm not that guy. But if I were, I would ask if it's required to show my papers.
