So it's getting too expensive to just shoot .40 at the range. I would like to pick up a nice 22 at the 1500 on sunday but I really dont know much about them. I would love a GSG-5 but not sure I want to dish out 500 bucks for it.

I like the look of tactical rifles. So any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

    Hmmm...

    I've been considering a PLR-22

Something a little longer? How about a 10/22 variant.

Depending on what fires the .40, maybe a conversion is in order? Not a rifle but keeps time in on your primary carry. I've got this for my G22.

This Armscor made the rounds here and Armscor does have an AK version too.

I'd go with a Ruger 10/22 also. There's lots of accesories out there so you can upgrade it however you want. I've had mine since 1985 and it's still one of my favorite rifles.

    Gary! Not cool.
Ruger 10/22 is the first thing that leaps to mind. They're reasonably accurate, fun to shoot, 30-round magazines can be had at prices that won't have you selling off bodily organs.. and there's a huge aftermarket so you can make your gun as horribly tactical as you like.

Another choice is the Beretta Neos. This is actually a pistol. But those are fun, and the Neos has available a carbine kit - extended barrel and shoulder stock. Instant NFA violation if you put the latter on before the former! I'm recommending this mostly because a good accurate .22LR autopistol is incredibly fun to shoot, more than a rifle in the same caliber, in my opinion.

+1 on the 10/22 choice. I went thru this exercise four years ago for my 12 year old son and built a nice 10/22 that his still prefers to shoot over his .223. Lots of choices, cheap accesible ammo, and lots of knowledge on this and other forums about the rifle.

If your set on a mag fed Semi auto, I would say go with the Ruger 10/22, But if your looking for out of the box accuracy I would strongly recommend a CZ model 452 bolt action, I got mine and within three days of taking it to the range both my buddies ran out and bought one and they both own 10/22's :D

Another fine choice in a semi auto is the Marlin model 60, It's tube fed, accurate and reliable semi auto on the cheap, but doesn't look as cool as the 10/22

    Cheers

    10/22, Marlin model 60, Marlin 597 etc

or, if you want bolt action, try a CZ-452.

    The possibilities are endless!

If I was not left handed for long guns, I would have one of these. They're just beautiful. Wonderful trigger. Every CZ product behaves as if it cost twice as much as they actually charge for them.

I do love the 10/22 but sprung for a GSG-5L not long ago and am very happy with it. Thought it would be picky on ammo but it isn't. Also as accurate as I can get. One of the best purchases I've made.

Thanks everyone for all your input. Had a great day at the gun show. Nice seeing all the new guns. I decided to go with a 10-22. Cheapest i could find at the gun show was 269!!!! Outrageous and no one would deal. So I left the gun show and went to Dicks Sporting Goods in Avon. Bought it for 199! Spent the day shooting at MCF&G. What a great weekend!
