I just bought an Ed Brown two-piece guide rod and am having trouble installing it. It's very difficult to get the second piece of the guide rod through the spring cleanly (if it goes in at all) and the upon disassembly it jams and I have to really work the slide to get it to budge.

All of my 2 piece guide rods have to be "Screwed" into the spring or they will not go. Push into the spring as far as possible without a great deal of resistance and then turn it clock wise until it contacts the other piece. Work it into the thread's and carefully tighten it up.

You are just north of me. If you continue to have issues PM and I will give you a hand.

The best place for a two piece guide rod is in someone else's 1911.

I would have to agree.. I've found no advantage to a one piece (or two piece) guide rod, just headaches like you have encountered.

I see no positives but I shoot like a rock ape anyway.
Springfield was adamant about staying with the 2 piece in the loaded I sent to their custom shop. Very adamant. Must be someting to them.
