In another scam to cause healthy people buy pharmaceuticals, psychiatrists are now telling people who eat strict health-conscious diets that they have a mental disorder, Orthorexia Nervosa. If you count calories, avoid High Fructose Corn Syrup, eat organic, avoid artificial sweeteners, and don't eat processed garbage "food", then you could be classified as mentally ill under the DSM-IV. Maybe soon they will introduce a vaccine for it.

The Medical Industrial Complex wants you to be fat & sickly, and continue to buy their pharmaceuticals from cradle to grave.

Choosing healthy foods now called a mental disorder

Great, now I have to keep a Big-Mac in my bug out bag. If the authorities find out that I like to eat healthy I can pull the Big Mac out of my bag and eat it. You see, being found mentally ill will will cause me to lose my guns, and I don't want to lose my guns.

That's why this should be relevant to all of us. We have classes of people who are stripped of their rights due to being in certain unfavorable categories. Those categories are expanding. There are more and more ways to be considered mentally ill, and there are more and more ways to become a felon.

They can't monitor everyone so it makes you wonder why and how they choose to monitor normal people. The gov. wants kids to eat healthy and the psychiatrists want kids to eat junk.:dunno:

The government most certainly does not want people to eat "healthy." They might use it as an excuse in order to control you. But natural, healthy living is the last thing that they want.

The FDA actually prevents natural, healthy products from being sold. Raw milk farmers are treated like narcotics traffickers if they try to sell natural milk without the FDA's permisison. Raw cheese and yogurt face the same scrutiny. The FDA also has a history of allowing dangerous foods & totally botching the food safety testing. Basically they are a worthless organization. Also, farmers' markets are under fire by recent Federal laws passed in 2009. Natural products are sometimes prevented from advertising as such on their packaging due to FDA regulation.

Then you've got things like Aspartame, HFCS, and various other harmful substances in foods. You've got sodium fluoride being added to your drinking water by government in order to supposedly give you good teeth?! You've got government-endorsed vaccines filled with Thimerosal and other carcinogens.

There is nothing healthy about the agenda of the FDA.

Interesting quote from the actual Guardian article that NaturalNews is commenting on:

The obsession about which foods are "good" and which are "bad" means orthorexics can end up malnourished. Their dietary restrictions commonly cause sufferers to feel proud of their "virtuous" behaviour even if it means that eating becomes so stressful their personal relationships can come under pressure and they become socially isolated.
I'm sure a lot of us could certainly admit that we should cut down onthe portions that we eat at each meal. There's nothing wrong with this. But some people with mental disorders take it too far and become obsessed with it. When it becomes an obsession that causes consequences in a person's life, we call it "Anorexia".

Similarly, there's nothing wrong with healthy eating. But if you take it too far and it becomes an obsession that causes consequences such as malnourishment, constant stress and anxiety, etc...well then it's a problem.

I'm not saying this "disorder" won't be used against us by our all-knowing government. I'm sure it will be. People have the right to be anorexic or orthorexic or whatever the hell they want to be.

But that doesn't mean it isn't a legitimate health issue for those who are harmed by it.

We already have a have a glove to fit these people who are harming themselves because of their obsessions. Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.

By this logic, Anorexia would also have to fall in the OCD category. But eating disorders and OCD are completely different.

So does the use of the term "Anorexia" mean the government is trying to force us to eat?

I think it is fair to say that Anorexia can also be called an Obsessive Compulsive behavior. Anorexia and OCD are treated essentially the same, with some obvious diet considerations for anorexics. It is said by many that OCD is the cause of Anorexia, or at least a risk factor.

Take it easy with that kind of talk. I'm running low on tin foil. :shady:

Actually I think the whole "Orthorexia Nervosa" thing is more of a pharmaceutical scam than a government conspiracy. But who knows.

Eating disorders are still specific disorders with different methods of treatment and therapies. They deserve their own category in the psychiatric field and I don't really have a problem with it academically.

Politically, however, I am in agreement that the government has no business sticking its nose in any of this. But attacking this Guardian article as if it's advocating government takeover of our diets is a little silly.

I will agree that the government has no business in these things (at least if socialist health care is still around), but to say that it's big Pharma trying to get the government to make us unhealthy, paranoia strikes again.

The disease, Orthorexia Nervosa, is the UNHEALTHY fixation, or compulsive disorder of the preparation, type and ingestion of the food.

I've known people whose behavior would fit this disorder.

Knew a "vegetarian" who ate so badly that she almost wrecked her body, not enough protein or iron in her diet. Took her several years of therapy and diet to get back to healthy eating.
