Picked up a new toy today, it's the Taurus Protector Poly in 357 mag.

I don't have much experince with these new lightweight snubbies, but thought I needed one, so off to the Muncie gun show I went. I had several models in mind from looking on the net, this was not one of them.

This is a new model this year from Taurus, five shot, 2 inch barrel, poly frame and stainless for the rest, weighs in at just under 20 ounces, fixed sights, SA/DA, semi shrouded hammer, two sets of stocks, one a full half inch longer than the other, no pinky hang over.

"Coonfingered" a bunch of different makes and models, but just kept coming back to this one, which was the only one I saw at the show, I liked it, I bought it, $360.00 OTD.

Got home, grabbed my range stuff and off I went, I took a box of 158 grain Magtec 357's jsp. and a box of PMC 132 grain 38spl's fmj.

The first load was with the 357's DA, she's a little stiff, I'm guessing 8lbs or so, I was shooting offhand at 7 yds. the group was about 5 inches, recoil was much better than I expected, right snappy, but not bad with the large set of stocks. Once we settled down with each other, and got used to the fixed sights, which were pretty much poa out of the box, I could hold a 2 inch group in single action, I'm happy with that for the first time out.

The 38's were absolute *****cats to shoot, although I seemed to be able to hold a very slightly tighter group with the heavier 357's, although the 25 degree weather may have affected that just a little. Anyway I ran a hundred rounds through it with out a hiccup, the one problem I see is I'm not sure you could use a speed loader with this gun, maybe, but it looks real tight.

Seems to be a very well made nice gun if your looking for such an animal, I;m happy with it.

Hmmm, never even heard of this model. Just looked it up. Kinda neat. I am a big snubbie fan. I would be interested in a durability test.

I carry the Taurus model 605 2" snubbie in .357mag, but mine weighs in at a paltry 16.78 ounces!
Total titanium doesn't weigh much, but the recoil is sharp enough. I like it.
