The newspaper did something stupid and justified it with good intentions. They wanted to spark a conversation based on this question: "Do you feel more or less safe after knowing more clearly how many people around you are gun owners?"

It's an interesting topic. it was a really stupid thing to publish that information.

Feigning stupidty is being untruthful.
They knew the trouble this would cause. They wanted it to happen is the only way I see it.
