I heard a rumor from a reputable source that somewhere in the July time frame suppressors will be an OTC purchase with a NICS check and tax stamp payment. Anyone else heard this?

If this is true I will be buying a can to go with my 9mm AR when I get the stamp for it sometime in August or September.

Ugggg...Jumped for joy when I went to the mailbox and saw the Dept. of Justice envelope Then I opened it and discovered a line where the LEO signs I didn't have my name Corrected it and back in the mail it went...I was a week shy of 6 months and looks like I just extended it a couple weeks.

And so it begins!!

Update

Called the NFA Branch today, she updated me that it's taking roughly 8 weeks from check cashed to pending.

Which unfortunately means it takes 8 months. Geez the wait is killing me.

I sended the paper work for a Auto-Ordnance West Hurley M1A1 Thompson on 2/5/13 it when pending on 3/20/13. That is about 6 week but I send a Postal money order. That has work for me in the passed.

I don't think so. How are they going to maintain the registry like that? They could have a special NICS number for suppressors I suppose that directs you to the NFA branch, but I really can't see the ATF going for that. Also, how would they distribute the stamps?

I was hoping they'd figured out that the suppressor wasn't the dangerous part and decided they didn't need a registry, just our tax dollars. Stamps given out with the suppressor stamped by a properly certified dealer would be my guess.

Garr, Got the dredded error letter in the mail. This was my first NFA item so I expected a few issues. Though it might still make the 6 months, or might be a few weeks over.

One error was under the law enforcement section, sheriff put his name where the manufacture should have been. Since he filled it in, I didnt even bother to review that section. Lesson Learned. Corrected that and it was back in the mail.

I also got another error that said on my finger print card the SSN wasn't filled in. Got confused as the fingerprint cards weren't returned with the letter, but after a call to the ATF, they said they could take that information over the phone.

So here is a new one for you. Called the ATF to find out the delay and they said there was an error with the serial number. Andrew (Profire) called the ATF (buying from him) and found out the ATF has NO RECORD for the suppressor being built. Despite it being on a Form 1 (from Huntertown), a Form 3 (to Andrew) and now a Form 4 to me there is no record...got to love the government. Hopefully it can get sorted out sooner rather than later however Andrew has been waiting since Monday for Huntertown to call him back
