    Just found this thread.

We ate there (Portillo's in Merrilville) about two hours ago.

We were forced to use the side door as we left since a couple employees were busy cleaning the revolving door glass. I turned around to hold the door open for the lady behind me. I glanced down and there it was. A sign about knee level warning me that firearms are not allowed even with a permit and that violators would be escorted off the property and prosecuted for trespass.

I've been fuming ever since. It was lousy of them to post the sign so low to the ground and on the opposite side of the revolving door. I would have been happy to oblige them and take my money elsewhere.

Isn't that on the same wall with the old NRA sign? Seriously...I'm certain there's an NRA sign hanging in there with all of the other stuff. I think they cancel each other out, so it's just as if there were no signs at all. At least I'll tell myself that - Mmmmm....Portillos. :D

We generally stop at Portillos when we're traveling to/from the Chicago area. Since this is where I generally shift from CC to naked, I don't usually break their rules.

Perhaps someone would like to send them this link:
Luby's massacre - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

as an explanation of why it isn't a good idea to advertise you're a gun-free zone, and the consequences to your customers if no one is able to defend themselves against an armed criminal.

I've never noticed the sign, and I go there all the time.

If there's one thing about Indiana, it's that the food sucks. Portillos gives me a little taste of "home" without having to go over to the evil side.

    Concealed means concealed.

I did just email them and told them I'll be eating at Al's beef until the sign is removed.

Let me tell you; I'm from Illinois and DO NOT think Indiana people are stupid. In fact, next week I am leaving Illinois to live in Indiana. I voted with my feet to get out of this corrupt, bankrupt, peoples republik.

I did the exact thing 6 months ago. Best move I've made. Lifetime permit holder now. I'll be letting Portillo's know that I will be a former customer UNTIL they change their attitudes towards us.

This goes to show you the mentality of Chicago politics. They would rather advertize that no guns are allowed so the criminals know they have free reign instead of allowing the most lawful group that can provide protection... FOR FREE...? :xmad:

Portillo's must be doing very well to turn its nose up at any source of potential revenue, in this case from licensed gun carriers. Guess I don't have much use for them either. :dunno:

The obvious problem here was that the "No Fireams" sign was posted at the front door, but the bad guys came in through the back door. Now if they had only seen the "No Firearms" sign, this never would have happened. I sure hope Portillo's learns their lesson and posts one of these signs at the back door so these bad guys won't keep making these serious errors. Otherwise, Portillo's has nobody to blame but themselves.

    Insert purple as appropriate.

Well, I am in NWI, so I will have to run down there to check out Heinz Beef. My friend just moved down to the South Side of Indy over the weekend, and I am going down there to party on Friday and Saturday. I will update as soon as possible.

I just OC'd at Strack's on 169th in Hammond. No problems.

I worked there many many years ago. I have OC'd there as well. Also Meijers in Highland, McDonalds, Burger King, Applebees, Red Robin etc. :D
