Ok. I have owned a shotgun forever with really no knowledge other than how to load and pull the trigger. After reading a few posts I had a :ugh: moment!

I went hunting a couple years ago with 12 gauge slugs in a smooth bore.

Is this dumb? :dunno: I really don't know! Is it dangerous? Is it just ineffective? Should I only use a rifled barrel!

I never had time to practice and didnt see any deer so I have never fired it this way. Please help!

As long as u have an improved cylinder choke or any choke more open than that I believe u are ok but I have never tried it myself. I do know they make riffled slugs for smooth bore barrels though.

    Smooth bore = rifled slugs

    Rifled bore = sabot slugs

And be sure your choke isn't too restrictive so the slug can exit w/o impacting.
