I am looking at buying a Norinco SKS imported by J S Pacific Enterprise back in the 1990s It even comes with the shipping box from J S. Anyone know anything about these SKSs?
Norinco was the marketing company/exporter, the plant that built the rifle will be stamped on the trunnion, 386, 16... J's Pacific was the importer. Looks like they closed up shop around 1995.
Chinese are some of the finest quality SKS's, other than some Russian models.
With any SKS get a Murray's spring loaded firing pin, it will save you from getting a prostate exam from the atf.gov if you shoot too much cheap dirty ammo and jam your pin forward and unintentionally fire off an extra round or two per trigger pull.
Oh and resist the urge to throw a bunch of plastic garbage on it... learn to love it's original beauty and it will love you back. SKS have been proven time and again to be trust-your-life reliable in the original configuration, but jam-o-matics if fooled with too much.
