So I'm currently building an AR that I'm going to use to use in training classes, basically I'm building it to be a high end "combat style" rifle. I've narrowed down all the parts I want to use: DD barrel, spikes lpk, spikes st buffer assembly, troy alpha rail, ssa-e trigger, all that good stuff.

The issue that I'm having is deciding on my upper and lower.
first choice: Spikes lower, with Vltor Mur upper.
choice number 2: Northtech matched billet upper and lower.

I'm just curious to all of your opinions on which to get, the Vltor combo is significantly cheaper, but the Northtech is beautiful and they seem to have amazing customer service.

Let me know what you think.

I don't have a Spikes lower, so I cannot comment on that, but I do have the VLTOR MUR1a upper and it's top notch. I've worked with a few AR's recently and it is very robust, tolerances are very good, and I had a gunsmith actually tell me that for 200 bucks it's the nicest he's seen. I'd feel confident going that route and saving a few dollars.

I've talked to Northtech a couple times, always pretty friendly. Never handled one of their receivers though, but their upper has caught my eye for a build though

The matched upper and lower of Northtech Defense looks sick! Please keep us in the loop...you may be helping me decide as well.
