Went to Blythe's (Griffith) this afternoon to pick up a few rounds of 54r so a friend and I can break in my 2 Mosins I picked up this winter.. $6.99/20 no problem there.. til I see only 2 per customer.... First, I kick myself for not bringing my wife and making her buy two packs... and second, I ask what's going on with the Mosin ammo.

I was informed that this was their last case, and that from what they've been told, it will be... wait for it... SIX MONTHS until they get more... I get that this estimate is fluid and can change, but that's just totally disheartening.. Got an email from Aim surplus this past week that they got more 7.62x54r in.. It was gone before I could input my shipping details...

Look, I get that people are hoarding ammo.. and yes, I know I'm late to the party, but really? 54r?? That's Mosin and WASR ammo... it's not like there's 342 different types of gun that uses it.. How in the hell is it vanishing this effing fast?

All i want to do it bruise my damn right shoulder a few times this summer.. Is that too much to ask for??

Haleys in Lafayette has it in 20 round boxes. Last time I was in there it was no limit. Im going in soon to buy more to feed my 91/30 and carbine all summer.

Cabelas in Hammond had some $12.99 for 20. It was Herters I think, not military surplus. Hope this helps, and yes the ammo shortage is really starting to tick me off.

There were cases of 7.62x54R at multiple booths yesterday.

Edit: Sorry, didn't realize Griffith was that far north. You are in the opposite end of the state.

Glad I stocked up on my 7.62x54r when it was $30-$45 a can of 440rds. Got about 4,500 rds. I don't shoot often so it should last me a lifetime.

Just started reloading for this also, so now just have to keep myself in components. I don't shoot a lot of it either so probably have enough powder and bullets for at least this summer. If things get too bad there are my two 440 round tins of surpluss. Jim.

No shortage of 54r, Sportsmans Guide was selling it as late as 2 weeks ago $156.00/880 rds with free shipping.:rockwoot:
I picked up 2 tins of it yesterday at Stout Field for $75 a 440 round tin. Even came with a can opener.
I think it's the dealers trying to create a market for it. Bradis has a bunch in stock as well as some other LGS's.

It's out of your way but Bradis Guns has 440 rd cans for $139.00/ea or 880 rd crates with opener for $239.00/ea. I was in there today and they have 2 spam cans in the first shop and at least 6 crates in shop 2.
