I've heard rumors about Life Members being able to "sponsor" another member to upgrade to Life for only $300...my question is, is this legit? The NRA website says nothing about it, and what info I've seen on the net looks suspicious.

Don't want to be cynical, it's just that $700 is one heckuva big discount, and sounds too good to be true.

What everyone said, any info would be helpful. Seems like a hell of a deal!

    *Edit*
    Found this on another site:

It is back: NRA Lifetime Memberships $300

    Three possible ways to qualify:
    1. Retired Veteran
    2. Disabled Veteran
    3. Be referred by a current lifetime member.
    4. NRA Life Members can sign up "family members and relatives" for Life Membership for $300 each.
( I signed up my brother last year )
If you dont know a life member go to any gun store or gun range and ask any NRA Life Membership sponsor you.
    5. All thay have to do is to call the NRA at 1-800-672-3888
    6. Press 3 for the lifetime dept.

Or you can call the NRA Tell them a relative suggested you upgrade to a lifetime membership for $300.
Give them the referring relative lifetime member's NRA #, give them your NRA info, give them your credit card info.

    NRA Membership Benefits

You will get a choice of LIFETIME subscription to American Rifleman, American Hunter, or America's 1st Freedom,

    Butcherboy likes America's 1st Freedom

Life members receive $10,000 of Accidental Death and Dismemberment coverage at NO COST to you. Law Enforcement Officers, that are NRA members, killed in the line of duty will have $25,000 in coverage.

$2,500 of ArmsCare coverage with your NRA membership. This plan covers insured firearms, air guns, bows and arrows against theft, accidental loss, and damage.

The most important benefit of NRA membership, however, is the defense of your Constitutional right to keep and bear arms

Dont know if this helps but its something.

Just great!!! Another one of those deals where you have to know someone to get a break on your membership dues. Sounds like another good old boys club type of deal. I have been a member of the NRA for longer than I can remember, but have always payed for my membership 3-5 years at a time when offered a special deal. I have never had the money at the time to afford the lifetime membership. Kinda sounds like the way that our elected officials work in Washington D.C. This guy knows the right person and he can get a lifetime membership for $300. I do not know the right person and would have to pay the full $1000. Now knowing this, along with them recommending Harry Reid based solely on his gun vote, I might just let my membership expire in 2015. Don't anyone out there offer to sponsor me. I would politely decline your offer.

If you're looking for a way to become a lifetime member you can always sign up for it and pay by quarter, which is what I did. You sign up as a lifetime member and pay $25/quarter toward the full price. Most likely in 2-3 years the NRA will send you an offer of a discounted price for full membership if you pay the balance immediately. When I signed up I think the full price was $700 and after paying for 2 years ($200) they offered to knock $250 off if I paid the other $250 in one lump sum.

It's not as good as this sweetheart deal for family members but it's a relatively painless way to gain a lifetime membership.

I just upgraded from Life Member to the next level. I am sure that there were offers for me to sign up friends or family for $300 life memberships. Just contact NRA and tell them that you want a $300 life membership and I am sure they would do it.

I don't care what you have heard or what you think of the NRA, they are they biggest group out there fighting to keep your 2A rights. There is also going to be an Indiana NRA Plate coming out if you like custom license plates that show your support.

Will a current life member please sponsor me? I have my Discover card in hand and would like to donate my $300 immediately. Please PM me if you will refer my name to them for the lifetime membership.

I called 888-678-7894 yesterday without a sponsor and received a lifetime membership for $300.
My five year membership was just updated in August but hey, $300 is a great deal.

So question about how everyone is verifying they have the lifetime. When I log into my NRA account, Under Your Membership, should the type say Lifetime? I signed up a while back and just went in there and it says Regular Annual, however it says it expires in 2033 (which is more then the 5 year I signed up for originally). Just wondering what everyone is seeing.

Never mind, I finished reading through the other one thread related to this and it looks like most people are seeing that 20 year membership thing for a few days and then it converts to Life time.

ok, i wasnt 100% sure this was legit so I went to there website and found the number listed there for member sign up. 1-877-672-2000, which I was transfered when I asked for the $300 lifetime mebership, that line was 1-800-672-3888. I was asked if I wanted to renew my membership, (which expired at the EOM), I told them I wanted to sign up for the lifetime membership and she asked me which one. I said the $300 one and she said ok. I asked how many lifetime ones they had, they also have a $600 lifetime they advertise on there website. So if your not in the know, you pay.
