NRA's only interest, the only thing they should be interested in, is gun rights. And whatever his other failings, Harry Reid has long been a supporter of gun rights and has supported the NRA's agenda consistently.

The NRA has become the Gun Owners Union. I think the NRA serves the NRA first and it's members second. I let my membership lapse.

I don't know why this is news. The NRA has supported Reid before. Additionally, the NRA would have no credibility if it refused to endorse Reid because he is a, "leftist."

NRA stands for National Rifle Association, not National Rights Association.

We could use one of those too, though.

I do not care what the NRA thinks about Harry Reid, I would not vote for him if my life depended on it if I lived in Nevada. I regret not being able to vote for his opponent.

I read the magazine front to back this morning. They must have gone to press before you guys got your resignation in. It wasn't even mentioned.

"One issue" lobby or not, why not endorse Reid's opponent, Sharron Angle? She has an "A" rating from the NRA, and has the additional benefit of not being a slimy socialist rights-grabber. They could totally endorse her and simultaneously remain true to their one-issue.

It makes no sense. And that's why I just can't send my check in to the NRA.

    • NRA gave Sharron Angle, Reid's opponent, an "A" rating. Also, she's a CCW holder in NV. (source)
    • NRA gave Reid a "B" rating in 04: (source)
    • GOA gives Harry Reid an "F" rating. (source)
In 2004, Senator Reid was rated “B” in his reelection by the NRA Political Victory Fund. Since then, as U.S. Senate Majority Leader, Senator Reid has proven himself to be a supporter of our Second Amendment rights. It would be accurate to say that few, if any, of NRA’s legislative victories in Congress during the last six years would have occurred without his active support.

After reading this, I'm convinced that the NRA cares less about Gun Rights than it does the money they get. Disgraceful. Reid isn't pro-gun unless he's the one holding it. Also, while the NRA is a "one issue" lobby group, that doesn't excuse them from ignoring all other rights. If they support someone like Harry Reid over Sharron Angle, that's like saying "We don't care about the rest of the Constitution as long as we can still have our guns."

And you people defend this.

Actually I don't think it is that hard to understand. The Senate Majority Leader, a member of the more anit-gun party, is above average in his friendliness towards gun issues. My understanding is that Reid and a few other Western Democrat Senators have told Obama to forget any talk about gun control legislation. If you are a gun rights organization why would you want to turn that seat. Unless the Republicans take over the Senate, the Leader is going to be a Democrat. Do you want the gatekeeper for legislation into the Senate to be a better than average on guns Democrat or the typcial ban them all type. If I am a single issue organization seems pretty clear to me.

First the "Disclose Act" then a Harry Reid endorsement? Maybe a cross-congress deal. GOA states why they gave Reid a F. Where does the NRA say why Reid gets a B? I looked briefly on NRA website but could not find it.

    What good is Sharron Angle?

Did you even read your own quote?

Let's see who I want on my side regarding gun issues green wet behind the ears first year republican senator or U.S. Senate Majority Leader. Let me think about this a minute as a gun owner or 2nd amendment lobbiest... hum... which one...?

I just received a survey from them, I did not fill it out. Instead, I wrote them a letter telling them I did not think that they represented my interests anymore and that it would take more than a spiffy lttle pocket knife to get my money. I also stated that if they did not get back to supporting it members, that I will no longer be one.

I sure that it will fall on deaf ears. I will not pay to support dirty harry of Nev.

Reid is as much about gun rights as other famous "duck hunters" Kerry and Clinton and Biden. They can wear flannel shirts and claim to hunt "varmints" with their berretta double barrels but they will sell us out everytime. Harry Reid saw the $$ and sponserd a huge range funding for that I wont call him what I really think he is but I wont bend and kiss his ring. The NRA really bothers me and I tell them that when they call for money they dont get it from me. Anyone remember the sodrel vs hill battle when the nra gave hill an endorsement and A rating? Sodrel a great American and very pro 2a pro legal carry. and the nra stabbed him in the back.
