    Well for me, at least. Can't say that this racoon thought it that way.

    'Bout 6 this evening, my dog caught this critter trying to break into my chicken coop and tree'd her.
    I've always been told that seeing a 'coon during daylight means that something is very likely wrong with it. So, I looked at the DNR web site to see what to do about it. Plus, I figured that once it found the chickens, it would probably be back.

    DNR: Raccoon

    In order to prevent the spread of disease, the DNR encourages homeowners to safely and humanely euthanize the raccoons, if possible.

    Well, I'd say that one shot was humane enough. :D

    Think you did well and did the right thing. It is like seeing a 'possum in broad daylight. You typically don't see that sort of behavior out of a traditionally nocturnal animal unless they are sick (perhaps rabid) or otherwise excessively hungry or driven or forced out of their normal day time habits.
