Looking for an answer to the following.....

You send an 1911 45 back to manf. to get repaired. (was sent by a local gun shop as a favor to save me approx. $60.00 in shipping)

The manf. wishes to replace with a new 1911 and said they would send it directly to my home.

I question the legality of this ???

Is it because of the replacement that this is legal ?

I'm grateful for a new firearm but wonder if I'm breaking any law ?

    thanks for your thoughts

    Dave

I've had a handgun replaced by the manufacturer, but it had to go to a gunshop for the FFL transfer-no charge to me.

It doesn't sound right to me-a gun with a different serial number, shipped to you, without an FFL transfer.

Don't sweat it. I would assume/hope that any firearms manufacturer would be more familiar with firearms law than any of us would ever be.

It could be a new gun with the same serial number and the manufacturer will dispose / destroy old gun

    This

The manufacturer probably knows the laws. If they dispose of the old one, and make a new one with the same SN, then they can send it straight back to you.

IIRC, if it's a new SN, it will have to go through an FFL, but I'm not positive on that.
