I'm still looking for my 1911. I had bought a Remington R1 and had nothing but trouble with it; failing to go into battery. On the third trip back to the factory I told them to either replace it or preferably, refund my purchase price. They are buying it back from me. Too bad because I really liked it (except for the not-working part). I didn't feel I could trust it.
In looking at replacements I've noticed that some manufacturers are using external extractors. I'm kind of a traditionalist so I have been leaning away from them. The S&W 1911's are looking pretty good though!
Any opinions (or facts) as to whether the external extractors are ok?

I'm a traditional 1911 guy, I like my Colt's. I have no experience with 1911's with external extractor, but S&W and SIG do. Shouldn't be a problem.

I prefer the internal extractor on my 1911s, but I have plenty of other pistols that use the external design, and I haven't had issues with either type.
