Context: I was not fortunate to get into the Colt game back in their hayday with the true law enforcement LE6920 M4. That being said, I do like the Colt name and product, but I also know there are probably other options for the price point that are going to be recommended overtop of Colt at that point.

So, what’s everyone’s take on new manufacture Colt ARs nowadays? Is it still worth bothering to scour for trade ins or used original models over new production?

Like you I got into the Colt AR game late. Like you, I have always fancied Colt. IMHO the name comes with a lot of history and I have a Colt SAA so there is that. So with that said, I knew when I got a Colt AR I did not want a current manufacture one. I wanted a LE6920 with the pre-ban mark on the receiver. So I began the search and found one NIB with all accouterments for under $1900. I was not disappointed. To me its like owning a classic car that is factory correct. I have never been into "Franken" AR's. Nothing wrong, just not my thing. I am a bit of a purist with all my firearms.Others will disagree and that's okay, to each their own. So...to answer your question. Yes, to me it is worth the effort and $$ to get a old school M4 Colt. I thoroughly enjoy mine. So...there you have it. Good luck with whatever route you choose.

I was excited to think that Colt being purchased by CZ, it would become a brand that valued their civilian customers more than in the past when they targeted their mil contracts (for the AR specifically).
I haven't really followed Colt since the purchase though. Does anyone have insight on this? To clarify, to me it seemed like old colt made a model and never modernized or updated features while also not dropping the price.

I have new (CZ) M6720, M6920SOCOM X2. No issues. I do know there was problems the M6700 (trigger) 6920, 6920SOCOM. Those have apparently been addressed and everything is cool.

    Voluntary recall:

If someone says "Which AR?", I have no issues saying Colt M6920 or a Centurion CM4 Midweight. We are drowning in options (the commodification of the AR-15).

Colt holds the TDP, no others can do COTS guns with the TDP (no, FN cannot). What many purists/roll mark lickers are upset about is: 1) roll marks, but laser is faster and cheaper, 2) Colt subcontracting parts (Big Army is not buying M4s by warehouse, gotta get overhead done so Toolcraft or MicroBest does BCGs, Wilson does barrels, etc, gun business is all in-bred anywho)

Today's Colt is not your grandfathers Colt.
You mean lurching in and out of bankruptcy? If so it is exactly like grandpa's Colt, lol.

Colt ate its seed corn. Instead of investing in R&D and, oh, I don't know, market researching finding out what people will buy, they spend the R&D on shortterm profits for the BoD in NYC, planes, suits, luxury hotels, inter alia.

CZ is European. Euros lurve them some regulations, unions and overhead. All things that are killing Colt.

CZ must move Colt out of CT and then salt the earth where it stood.

Colt was making insane amounts of money with the M4. Perfect timing. No pressure/incentive to make it better so Colt became ZiL.

CZ should have fired all management at Colt. And then re-hired them to fire them again. Then re-hired them to move Colt out of CT by ox cart barefoot, lashing them the entire way to AR. Then fired them after having all the fired R&D engineers lash and salt them.
