Nothing inherently bad about a Sigma.

However, if she liked the Sigma, chances are she'll like the M&P or a Springfield XD (9mm) as much or better and will be able to shoot either better because they have much better triggers.

From what I learned, the only meaningful complaint is the trigger's too heavy/long/awful. It's a Glock copycat, but the trigger is heavier than the original. I think that actually makes it a safer weapon, if you are used to DA revolvers, and believe DA pull is safe without a safety, but SA is not safe to carry, unless we are all God that never makes a mistake/have an oversight, etc...(oh, yeah, we all know Glock has two dozen safeties, and the only one we really need is between our ears, blah blah)

The other fault I can think of, is that they don't come in .45 ACP. That's "un-American", you know...:D

But the bottom line is... SHE needs to pick out her gun. Make her go with you. Make her hold it, operate all the levers and buttons and mechanisms. Have her take a training or six. Take her shooting so she can actually try the ones she's looking at. And have her (and you, actually) read the Cornered Cat website: Cornered Cat

If she likes it buy it?
hmm I think a joint descion based on research and handling as many of the prospective guns at a gun store that the research selects would be better.

I have spent way to much money on guns *I* liked only to find out they sucked. much less buying twice for my wife :)

I cannot count the number of knuckleheads that buy a sooper-lite titanium j-frame, load it with full-house 357 and give it to their wives as a "purse gun".

My suggestion was to rent the gun she likes and if she can fire and carry it comfortably - then buy it.

pop guns is pretty good about rentals. A buddy of mine bought a glock from them, they waved our range fee for the day and the rental fee.

*he bought after we rented and shot.

I have already posted some on my thoughts and advice in the threads that Pami linked, so I won't go there.

Assuming you have followed some of the advice there, and she selected the Sigma now you're just trying to do the homework on her choice, here's my thoughts on that.

I have seen nothing but bad from the entire Sigma product line. Everything from poor accuracy, to poor reliability, too poor construction. That product line is one of the reasons I swore off S&W for several years. On the other hand, the new M&P seems to be a significant step up. and with the replaceable grip panels, easier to fit most people.

Unless the price point is an absolute, I'd be looking to the M&P. I really look for S&W to phase out the sigma within the next few years, if not sooner.

Remember guys, if your lady picks out a gun it is not a joint decision, it is her decision. The only time you should have any say is if it is a gun that is known to have problems. Then you may want to suggest that she try something else and explain why.

Just be glad you aren't with an anti.
