    I, for one, am glad that the citizenry of this Oregon county are out doing the right thing. When cutbacks kill the local LEO presence, it is the citizens that should protect themselves and their property.

    I don't like how the new sheriff is saying that he doesn't like that they don't have enough training. I say instead of griping about it, train them, deputize them, and let them go on being volunteer officers. Isn't that the way things used to happen?

    Once upon a time, there were no police, and citizens would patrol themselves. Also used to have nights men that would light the torches, and help deliver justice, coming out with the term vigilante. And that was your part of your history lesson.
