I too was surprise of the positive reaction. Lots of smiles, honks, and waves. There were a few that looked slightly concerned but they were a very small minority.

It was a good way to spend my bday and a great way to spend a little time with boys.

A very positive experience! Thanks to SavageEagle for coordinating everything.

i took this picture 30 seconds before we actually sang. we all had our hands over our hearts, hats off, and flags hoisted. dont worry, we did it right. :patriot:
Is this picture taken during the actual Anthem? I'm a little confused by it.

Only one guy has his hand over his heart, at least one person is still wearing a hat, and (assuming that's the "official" flag in the center), half of you have your backs turned to the flag. Never mind the fact that it's not hoisted.

+1 to that! I'd like to see 10 times the turn-out next time. The media would still TRY, but might have a little harder time trying to ignore 360 armed people in the streets!:D

Amazing afternoon. Great weather for a stroll downtown. Not enough thanks to give for SE and ATF for organizing the event and for the flyers/stickers that were printed up. Local PD escort professional and greatly appreciated. Now if I can figure out how to post pics I will start in with them.

I want to thank everyone who came to the event! Without you it'd never been anything more than a couple guys with guns downtown passing out flyers!

That went so much better than I dreamed. It just goes to show what real patriots are capable of doing when they have the courage to do it! Never in my life did I picture myself surrounded by 30+ people and all them looking to me for guidance. Then I never figured I could lead anyone into the National Anthem. THEN that we could all sing it in such unison and well pitched! :D

It's a shame that the media didn't show up, but as was discussed at the dinner, it's kinda a good thing. They can't come back at us and say we were this or that and paint us in a negitive light without coming up with total and utter lies. Next time they won't be able to ignore us though. Next time I expect more people to show up! :) If the weather holds up we might do it again before the end of the year, but I'll plan a bigger one next Spring.

Anyone who doubted this whole idea, what do you think now? We didn't even have a heckler! I think some guy in a car said something silly and one group of ladies at a coffee shop flipped and said "I think those are REAL guns!" but other than that the worst we got were a couple dirty looks. We educated a few people and connected with a guy from the IUPUI chapter of SCCC who was really grateful for our efforts. Apparently we kept a pretty tight lid on this if they didn't know about it! :):

This is the letter that went out to our local TV Stations, the White House, MoveOn.org, many many senators and Congressmen and Statesmen, the brady camp, and many others yesterday and the day before. It may not be worded the best and I don't care if you nit pick at it because it was sent and it's over with. So here's the letter I sent. I included a copy of our Statement of Intent with it.

    To Whom It May Concern,

Hi! My name is Ryan Savage. I, among many others, helped organize the Tax Day and Independence Day Tea Party's here in Indianapolis, Indiana. I am currently working on a little project in which I'm trying to educate people about Gun Rights and the Second Amendment.

The idea transpired after a year of failure trying to do so on a National Scale. I tried to get this going through a Second Amendment forum on the Internet and had great initial success, but only initially. After about a month of gaining supporters in 10 states, too many people let the "what-ifs" stand in the way. It wasn't until the Tea Parties did people think an idea like this would be possible. The idea and events that spurred this Walk into life was the recent events in which the media demonized the men from New Hampshire and Arizona who openly carried pistols and rifles at obama Town Hall meetings.

Now, before I get into details, I'd like to say this is only a local educational walk right now. I have a bunch of people all across the USA watching us to see how well our walk goes.

On September 26th, 2009, this Saturday at 12 noon, I, along with at least 30 other people and some of their families intend to walk a route through downtown Indianapolis with the group passing the Indiana State Capitol Building, the Soldiers and Sailors Monument on the Circle, and a small stop at the Indiana World War Memorial to play the National Anthem and say a prayer for those who died to protect our Freedom. We will be Openly Carrying Pistols and Rifles and Shotguns and passing out information to anyone interested. I have attached a piece of info that will be included in the packets we will be handing out. It is also our Statement of Intent.

We have the support and go ahead from the City of Indianapolis and are working closely with the Indianapolis Metro Police Department (IMPD) and Indiana State Police (ISP) to make sure everyone is safe and stays safe before, during, and after the Walk.

Again, attached to this email is our Statement of Intent so that no one can say that we are racists, terrorists, criminals, or are advocating violence of any kind. We are teachers, mechanics, scientists, police officers, plumbers, carpenters, truck drivers, fathers, husbands, fire fighters, paramedics, and we are all concerned about not just gun rights, but also the level of education that people have regarding firearms and the legality of carrying or, God forbid, using them.

We hope that you will send someone to cover this event. It may well be an event to remember. Especially since this is a historic first for Indiana!

As one who actually participated in the walk, I'd like to thank Savage Eagle, ATF and everyone else who participated. It was a modest beginning, but a beginning nonetheless. To those of you who were not there and are big enough *******s to take potshots at how anything was done, I say this: Scutter-you don't deserve to be a moderator on this forum and I implore whoever is in charge to de-commission you. FDPshooter is simply a troll and his account should be unplugged. Everything today was done properly. For you to criticize ANYTHING when you weren't there just shows that you are simply *******s. **** you. You are traitors to the cause.
