SCHAUMBURG, IL - December 12, 2012 - The Chicagoland Fishing, Travel & Outdoor Expo is the perfect destination for families, whether you have a budding angler or are just looking for pure family fun. Running January 24-27, 2013 at the Schaumburg Convention Center in Schaumburg, IL, the Chicagoland Show is a sportfishing spectacular with something for visitors of all ages. Everyone will enjoy the Hawg Trough, a 5,000-gallon fish tank loaded with largemouth bass. At the Trough, the nation’s top pros will demonstrate the latest and greatest lures and the best techniques for using them. Check out the Trout Pond, where kids can practice their fishing skills by catching and releasing one of these coveted beauties. The Fishing Simulator is also a family affair. A large screen television shows the fish you have just hooked as he jumps and dives to get away. You will feel the pull on the line as you battle to land the big one. The Fishing Simulator is fun for all ages, so grab your rod and hold on!

Anyone who has ever marveled at a bird of prey will be amazed by the presentations of the Northern Illinois Raptor Center. The Center brings together various specialists in areas of education, conservation, research, veterinary medicine and falconry to share information about hawks and owls. They will introduce the audience to spectacular live birds, including a Great Horned Owl, Barred Owl, American Kestrel and Red-tailed Hawk while sharing fascinating facts about these birds.

Sunday is Family Fun Day! Children age 11 and under get FREE admission to the show when accompanied by a paying adult, and the first 100 children get a Plano Tackle Box. Among the offerings that day is BASSMaster’s CastingKids, presented by the Illinois BASS Federation Nation (IBFN). The Casting Kids program introduces children to the exciting pastime of fishing through a fun-filled contest. The contest is open to kids in two age groups--7 to 10 and 11 to 14. The CastingKids competition is similar to the NFL’s Punt, Pass and Kick events, except in these contests children must cast, pitch and flip--important skills used in catching fish. Scoring is based on a points system with the child who accumulates the most points winning the contest. During the last hour of the competition, IBFN will also conduct the Illinois CastingKids State Championships. Additional features include the Kayak Angler’s Edge pavilion. See and learn the latest in paddle sports and gear. The pavilion is presented by Paddle & Trail and sponsored by Kayak Angler Magazine. Also, fans of the quiet sport, won’t want to miss the Fly Fishing Pavilion, which will be loaded with the newest and greatest fly gear.

Adults will want to sign up for Bass University, the number one bass fishing teaching school. The two-day intensive program is taught by today’s best pro anglers in an easy-to-learn, classroom-style environment. Hosted by Pete Gluszek and Mike Iaconelli, Bass University gives attendees insights into how the pros think and allows them to ask questions about lures, tackle and techniques. Bass University will be held on Saturday, January 26th and Sunday, January 27th at the Schaumburg Convention Center. Almost worth a trip up there/. I used to fish religiously, now... Not so much. I was off shore fishing in Florida over Christmas.. Caught some perch. It was fun, except for the sea sickness
