I bought a new Walther P22 in October. I haven't kept a round count on it, but I'd guess around 3000 rounds. I noticed a deformity on the top of the slide yesterday while cleaning it. To me, it looks like the ribbing naturally stops short of the crack, like there may have been some type of opening there originally. Anybody experienced a similar problem? Can I send the gun in to Walther for a replacement? Is the weapon unsafe to shoot?

I cant tell from picture---- but the round in chamber indicator slot on the top should not have a crack past the factory opening , maybe magnify it ? if its a true crack or you cant tell---- if i remember correctly you have a one year factory replacement parts from walther . Best of luck .

In contrast, my dealings with S&W customer service has been top-notch. Both on the phone and via email.

They also sent out a "free" front sight to MontereyC6 for his P22 after it committed suicide at MCF&G. Of course, that free one only lasted a few rounds until the white dot fell out...

My suggestion, OP, is to really work on clearer photos. Set your camera to it's highest resolution (so you can crop the image down later). Get as much light as you can. Set your camera to the "macro" setting...usually denoted by a little flower. Lastly, have the lens far enough away from the subject that it'll focus correctly and in the correct spot.

Once you have the image, you can crop out the unnecessary bits and then you can post the "resized" left-overs.

I really am interested in seeing a cracked P22 slide!

Yeah, S&W/Walther sent me a free spring when the tiny little guy went flying during cleaning. They were very friendly, and helpful

I took a look at my P22 and there is a normal grove that is on the slide. I cant really tell from the picture, but I cant see a crack. If you are talking about the grove, its common. If its cracking actually down that grove, I would contact Walther, I think your under your warrantee.

Unless there is some thin, hairline fracture that I cannot see in the photo, that "crack" is just your loaded chamber indicator slot.

The crack is down that groove, jagged and unnatural looking. I've had a couple people look at it and they say it definitely doesn't look like it was manufactured that way. I'll try and get a better picture up.
