Im looking for a good panic alert system for my grandmother. She is active in and outdoors and 88 years old. She does fall at times and lives on a farm alone. Does anyone have suggestions, pro's or cons?
My grandmother has Phillips lifeline and they are wonderful. I have received several calls from them when she was falling a lot. They always seem truly concerned when they call or when she calls them. When she pushes the button they respond quickly. They now even have a new system that has a sensor in it that senses falls and calls automatically, then if they don't get a response they call 911 first then start calling people on the list.
Grandma says they are $40 a month well spent.
I think they problem you may have is how far does she go away from the house. They only reach some where around 100-200 meters. A cell phone carried outside might be a good idea.
Most services have water proof buttons that can be worn in the shower or whatever.
But check out which ever company you want to use. Some are only concerned about money and will charge a fee if she calls them and doesn't need EMS or police.
That is one of the things I like about Lifeline, they say even if you are lonely or scared of a storm just push your button.
My mother has one from St. Joe hospital in
Ft. Wayne. "Lifeline", I think. It is local, real
people. She wears her waterproof panic button,
which operates to a unit on her hardwired phone,
as a necklace. When she was down with a broken
hip, this unit and service was an absolute Godsend.
Make sure it can work out in the yard. Lost a landlord many years back and if she had been able to call for help from the yard she would not have died.
