I am trying to decide how to best track my progress. Do I take pictures of my target and write the date and what I am shooting on in and then track it in a book (date, # of rounds, what gun, ammo, etc.)

    OR

Should I use a smart phone app? I found a few but I am not sure just how good they are. I not interested in any hunting style apps. Target only.

Any advice, suggestions, or ideas are greatly appreciated.

I keep a notebook, but I've recently went electronic.

Find a skill you want to work on. Find a drill that measures that skill. Do that drill each range session, before and after your practice for they day. That tracks progress. What you are suggesting is tracking round count, which isn't the same thing.
