I can't help but be amused that the Ds are being forced to choose one way or the other between labor (which group the Ds have claimed to champion for generations) and the environmentalist fringe (which forms a significant portion of the core of the D party these days). It could be that the collection of disparate groups making up the democrat voting bloc is fracturing by virtue of some members and their ability to make a living being thrown under the bus in favor of the ideologues.

The trade unions are being hit hard by the environmentalist fringe, SEIU, etc., The Keystone Pipeline is another example. The trade unions would benefit greatly from this project but the loonie left stabs them in the back again.

More and more Democrats are joining the chorus of opponents to President Obama’s “war on coal.” In addition to West Virginia Democrats, two state lawmakers from Pennsylvania are knocking the federal government for its onerous regulations that have been shutting down coal plants across the country.

This war on coal is absolutely ridiculous. The plants being shut down are being moth balled instead of being completely abandoned. The companies that own these plants (AEP, Duke, Covanta, NRG, etc...) know that once the brown outs start happening and natural gas prices skyrocket, these coal fired plants will need to be fired up rather quickly.

Combine cycle plants are all the craze right now as well as small, cleaner nuclear facilities which are starting to be fashionable again. 2015 is going to be an interesting year for coal and power in general.

Until we get nuclear power coal and natural gas are the best thing we have going. Wind and solar don't work effectively.

They may be fracturing internally, but they'll still ALL vote Democrat before they vote for anyone else.

You are, unfortunately, right. The indoctrination runs so deep that I have seen people even in advanced age who were unwavering Democrats in spite of the D party opposing nearly everything they stood for aside from happy recollections of Ds 'standing up for the working man' which I consider more fiction and nostalgia than reality, as is being demonstrated today. The D-loyal workers need to get a grip on the fact that they are serving as useful idiots, although I don't see that happening.
