Using mixed brass, Aguila, HSM, & others. I had them sorted by HS, made no difference.

Sold BillyBob most of my 38 brass some time ago when I thought I it was very unlikely I would be interested in loading 38, LOL. Here I am.

I think I am going to pull the rounds I have loaded & look at options for those & the 500+ projos that do not appear to have any lube, they are double ended wadcutters.
What I have seen with loading 38 special wadcutters is, it tends to work better using 38 spec wadcutter brass.
It will have the bullet crimp ring at the bottom of the bullet or no crimp ring at all.
What bullets are these you are having problems with? Hornadys?

For a bulk of "Unknown" DEWC, you may?? have a lot of work ahead of you for them to shoot right??

    My thoughts to do:
Size all to .357" (DO NOT LUBE)
    Boil off ALL Lube
Wash down with Choke Cleaner spray
    Powder Coat Paint
    Size (Again) to .358"
    Load on top of WW-231/HP-38.

    ^^^
AGAIN a LOT of work..HA.HA. Bill

Thats why I suggested using Alox, a few drops of that, and one shouldn't have to resize.
If they were my bullets I would give them a bath and give them a thin coating of Hi-Tec and cook them. Load them up.

Should he not slug the barrel to determine appropriate sizing?

    .001/.002 over slugged barrel size?

    :dunno:

The first 5 or so shoot fine, they measure around .359-.360.

Have to admit, I have thought about going full hilljack, slowing them down & experimenting with silicone & graphite.

Thats a good thought, I wiĺl ad to that.
I would try tumbling them in Molybdenum hell even white Teflon powder in a vibration tumbler like we did with coating moly bullets when it became the Thing.

Do you have graphite or moly powder?

Tonight, I pulled all the rounds that I had loaded. Deleading barrel isn't fun.

Hilljack here I go, I used spray silicone and graphite on some (no Molybdenum), multiple coats & made sure it was dry. The bullets seemed to seat easier, they definitely had more lubricity than previously, not sure how they will do under speed, heat & pressure. Loaded up a small sampling at lower velocity (2.8 bullseye). May go to the range in next few days to try them out.

Sounds like a good plan. Please post your findings.

Shot 12 rounds with the hilljack bullet Lube concoction after shooting some of the horn hbwc's.

The barrel did not lead nearly as much as it did previously. I'm going to load up 15 more and see how those go with a pristine clean Barrel
