Okay, so I'm bringing back my "Pick Five" series, since folks seemed to really enjoy the mental exercise and sharing of ideas and thought process.

This one is a Ukraine based scenario. Basically, you have decided to join the fight in Ukraine and have made your way to the Polish border. You have a contract and will be joining other foreign fighters in your own unit. You will be given a rifle and loaded mags in LBE, basic body armor and some uniform pieces. You brought some things but not everything you need. Before you cross the border what are the 5 things in this picture that you would want.? Assume you don't have any of these items for whatever reason. (I know, I know what they say about assuming but play along). You can only choose five so prioritize what you pick and think of redundant or multiple uses for each item you select. For purposes of simplicity, some items have several parts so, the medical supplies in the lower right corner count as one item even though its an Izzy dressing, CAT and combat gauze. Same with the pencil flare launcher and flares, or the stove and fuel. Thats also "one item.

    So you have:
MSR Pocket Rocket stove with fuel
    GPS unit
    Burner phone w/ Ukrainian #
    Leatherman tool
    USGI compass
    Flare launcher and flares
    IR rescue strobe
    HAM radio
    SW radio
    Makarov pistol w/ 8 rds
WETSU pocket survival kit (fire, multitool, water treatment, cordage, mini compass, etc
Med kit w/ Izzy CAT and combat gauze

Remember kids, show your work! Thats how the rest of us learn.

    Scrounging brass
Leatherman - feel insecure without one. Prefer a Wave.
    FAK - meds FTW
PSK - because you made it!
HAM radio - communication is key. Programmable, I hope. Batteries I wish. An accompanying solar charger would be nice.
Compass - not sure how useful a GPS would be if jamming is a thing. Unless I'm a lieutenant - then the compass will be useless.

    ETA: Where's my ankle brace!

These are my top 4 - in order of importance
WETSU pocket survival kit (fire, multitool, water treatment, cordage, mini compass, etc...) - stay alive
Leatherman tool - should at least find you handy
Med kit w/ Izzy CAT and combat gauze - plug the holes
HAM radio - short range comms & coordination

I'd like a poncho or tarp for the elements. Maybe a rechargeable headlamp, if personal weatherproofing is already implied.

If I have to pick from the list, this is my 5th
Burner phone w/ Ukrainian # - longer range comms & intel

This a strong maybe, though without a map...
