I've traveled a good deal for a guy in his early 20's.

    2010:

I spent the summer in China.

    2011:

I went sailing and scuba diving in the Exuma Islands, Bahamas.
I spent the summer in Thailand and Cambodia.

    2012:

I went back to the Bahamas to sail and dive.

    2013:
I now live in Bangkok, Thailand.
In 3 weeks I am traveling through Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore by rail and speedboat.

The one thing that is most striking about Asia is the extreme poverty and exotic nature of everyday happenings. Here are a few pics from my current stay in Thailand:

Shacks in Chinatown dwarfed by the wealth downtown. Speedboat taxis travel on the canals:

I spent a month in central Mexico with some of their Police. It was an amazing and eye opening experience. I'd go back in a second. We were treated like royalty the entire time.

Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas- everything is extremely expensive at the resort, go out on the town

Okinawa, Japan- great place, lots to do, would go back and visit again
    Philippines
Thailand- cool little country, very poverty stricken though
Singapore- spent almost 3 weeks there, got old really quick
Malaysia- off season so the weather kind sucked, cows were roaming the streets going through the trash cans
    Indonesia- drank too much
    Brunei- to be honest...total dump
Guam- tiny little island but lots of fun
Kwajalein in the Marshall Islands- off limits to civilians but they had their own little community including a bar

Nope. I thought about that after I posted.:D Never been to Cali and have no plans to. The only thing I can see myself going there for would be to wheel on the Rubicon. If not, I'll go back to Canada to fish.

    Right here.
Scotland - Great people, loved the Pubs (and yep the ale is served at room temp). One of the most beautiful places on earth. History around almost every corner. I'd go back in an instant.

Ireland - See above. It's also the origin of the joke "An Irishman walks out of a pub..."

Spain - Gritty, great seafood, friendly people, cops on Vespas that carry Uzi's (full auto) maybe that's why the people are friendly. Bought a great pair of hand forged broad swords there. Not likely to go back.

France - Cannes during the International Film Festival. Actually met Barbara Streisand in White Horse (what happens in White Horse stays in White Horse). I think she was researching the role for the Owl and the 'Kitty' Cat. Spent time in Nice...Cannes without the hubbub...Grasse, and spent lots of time enjoying a few great bottles of wine and loaves of bread at a beach side café watching the locals sun themselves as only women can do in France.

Monaco - Left a bit of money in the casino in Monte Carlo. Here again terrific food, wine and people.

Italy - Naples, Genoa. These people drink wine for breakfast and don't stop until they go to bed. Beautiful country. Genoa is the birthplace of Christopher Columbus and there is a huge statue of him in the town circle. Italy is anything but laid back. I think Italy was where sign language was invented...No Italian can talk without flailing their arms around. Loved the little side street cafe's and shops off of the main streets. Switchblades are perfectly legal and are high quality knives.

Greece - Corfu, Rhoades, Athens, Daphne. DON'T EVER DRINK OOZO!! (learned that one the hard way). Genuinely the cradle of civilization. So much history here. I'd go back.

Majorca - Lots of rich folk here. The architecture (homes and villas) run up the mountains from the Med. The higher up you live the richer you are. No slums I could find. Good for a one time trip.

Philippines - Manila, Olongopo. Don't eat the street food unless you're drunk...then the bar-b-que (they call it chicken) is pretty good! So much poverty. I'd never seen so many thrown together shacks. When the monsoon season comes people in the shanty towns loose everything, and lots of them die. I believe it still requires 14 different inoculations before you can go there. Very industrious and hard working people that for the most part like Americans (and their dollars). They can copy anything and do it with high quality. Armscor/Rock Island Armory is a great example of that.

Hong Kong - Loved it! People live in apartments that are stacked like cord wood. Great disparity in wealth. You've either got money and lots of it or you live with very little. Since the Chi-Coms have taken over the city has actually prospered and expanded. OMG the food. Whether you're eating in a fine restaurant or a little side street shack the food is top shelf. People are pretty friendly and there's a strong law enforcement presence that keeps it that way.

Singapore - Very exotic and diverse. One of the cleanest places on earth. Throwing trash on the ground can get you 10 lashes with a cane - first offense. Beautiful botanical gardens, and a world class zoo. Stayed at the Hotel Phoenix (Del Webb property) and it's five stars all the way.

Also been to the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, and St. Thomas...I'd go back to St. Thomas only.

Thanks to Uncle Sam's Yacht Club I've gotten to see the world...and appreciate the good ole USA even more.

Ngabang, West Kalimantan, Indonesia. Learned to eat durian with former headhunters.

Surabaya, East Java, Indonesia. Learned about 3 million people are denied identity papers, so legally, they do not exist.

Urumqi, Xinjiang, China. Han Chinese do not like Uyghur folks. Racism is not just an American problem.

Ulaan Baataar, Mongolia. There is a place colder than Urumqi.

Singapore. It is possible to live cleanly in an organized way in Asia.

Thimphu, Bhutan. The only place in Asia cleaner than Singapore.

Kolkata, West Bengal, India. The polar opposite of Thimphu. Depressing to see that people can live in worse conditions than animals and the prevailing world view argues that they deserve this because of bad karma. Bad karma gives them a rationale for not intervening to help the poor, the sick, the enslaved.

Negril, Jamaica. Some great people. Great beaches. Great place to visit.

Fort Wayne. Best place in the world to live, raise a family. Good folks.

Ireland: part of a class trip in HS, so very touristy but educational. Saw pretty much the whole country including Northern Ireland. Yeah, figuring out what to wear at the end of "the Troubles" was fun...

England: about two hours while returning to the US from Ireland, mostly driving from one airport to the other.

Nicaragua: the only country of mine I haven't seen on other lists. Went as part of a mission trip while I was in college. We went over Christmas break, and I was one of four (out of thirteen) who actually spoke any Spanish at all. Beautiful country, the people not so much. The first week we were there we ended up taking a tour of the country. First off, New Years Eve sounds like a war zone, and a former Sandinista tour guide makes things fun, yeah, that's the word.

Funny thing about all of them: I still refer to Ireland and Nicaragua the way the locals do, so I end up saying "air-land" and "nee-ca-raw-gwa" respectively.
