    mags are a good place to start, good practice.
    just be careful of the crayon shavings (frequently blow them away from work surface)
    and if you don't like it it's as easy as removing with a toothpick and cleaning slide like normal...

    Man, I'm so conflicted with whether or not I want to color-fill my G19. Maybe I'll compromise and just start with the mags...

    Enamel modeler paint is very easy to work with, holds up well enough, and is easy to clean off with some Hoppes and a tooth brush. In fact it does come off whenever I scrub the slide with some Hoppes, but I can easily have it reapplied in 5 minutes and dry within 20. You'd be surprised just little of a deal it can be. Certainly not worth any length of "mulling over".

    from my own personal experience: crayola crayon is easier to use, less messy, lasts longer, and is easier to remove.
    Also: generic crayons do not work as well as quality crayola brand
