    It's the tail number of my plane. US-registered planes all start with "N," and the plane's model designation is an RV-8, so I managed to finagle N8RV from the FAA.

    However, ham operators often think that I'm one of them, because I found out that "N8RV" is also a repeater down in WV somewhere.

    Not far off -- the plane is an RV, after all. And I am old. :):

    And, coincidentally, I stumbled upon someone else using "N8RV" as a moniker, and his name is indeed Nate. He's more into music than airplanes and guns.
