I would like to ask this question here as it seems to fit in the overall theme of self defense. Through out our home we have self defense tools out of sight but available. Lately I have been thinking about adding some outside cameras. Seems like the cost has come way down on them. I am not a tech guy so I don't have a clue what would be a good option.

My desire would t be able to monitor the front entry and around the side of our home. I would like something that is motion activated so its not recording constantly.

thoughts and opinions would be appreciated.

If you want to monitor it from the interwebs make sure and check your connection speed. I was about to take the leap when I realized my Internet speed stinks and cannot support it.

I would do as much research as possible there are a lot of stuff on the market now. Or spend the extra money and hire the professional company.

    This.

    Research.
And you need to decide what you want, before buying.

If you hire a professional, don't go the route of ADT and the like. They "lock you in" with cheap proprietary equipment and then you're between a rock and hard place on monitoring fees that may start low but climb to high rates...
