"Police said the man was driving a lawnmower down the street when officers stopped him"

Maybe it was a seatbelt check point, those can get pretty hostile!

    Indiana, of course
He was driving down the street ignoring stop signs as he went and in doing so almost cause a crash. Wasn't his first run in with the law. Suspect is a former Lafayette firefighter that was let go for conduct unbecoming (two counts of arson) back in 2009. Officers said that upon investigation, the handgun turned out to be a handgun replica pellet gun.

Sounds like he may have been trying to commit suicide.

Very sad all the way around. I have every confidence that Officers Max and Ridge, both veteran officers, will be quickly exonerated.

If you have family members that displays warning signs of emotional problems, make sure that get the help they need and don't give up on them.
