Are there any advantages to polishing the bolt carrier? Woudn't it rust real easy if you stripped it down to a bare metal polished look?

It CAN make travel more smooth... Might also make racking the bolt easier. I suppose that it could also make it function better with ever-so-slightly more "dirt" in the works.

And once you remove a protective coating, especially if that coating is a rust inhibitor, then I'd say that yes, you'd open yourself up for a higher incidence of corrosion (or at least increase your chances)

My bolt kinda sticks about 3/4 of the way back. I figured it was because it was still new and needed to be broken in. I just thought it would help smooth out the bolt. But i dont want it to do more harm than good.

As phylodog said, shooting will quickly identify the areas that would benefit from polishing.

In the AR bolt carrier, less is more..
