I used to live in Minnesota, being such a liberal state, and me being a libertarian, I couldn't help but talk politics all the time. It just ticked me off that is why I moved to Florida in a conservative area.
I moved up to to get away from this crazy lady down in Florida, now I find myself much more obsessed with politics. I think these liberals just make me made, South Bend, Indiana is almost communist, they completely ignor the laws and make up their own.
Am I obsessed more because of this area, do you guys do the same. Just curious. Just like the other day this lady made a comment about the guy voting while carrying his gun, "what is wrong with that" I said. I can't help it , Im not going to let these guys get away with that retarted stuff.

In real life, I don't talk about politics all that much. Usually it is family stuff, hunting, fishing, shooting, the weather, idiot drivers, stuff on sale, food and eating, next would probably be politics.......

I'm with ya. It's sometimes too difficult to find like minded people amongst all the "others"....

besides, I deal w/ the general public all day and for me to pollute my customers with my opinions would get me fired LOL

The thing is, I can't just ignor it. Like Minnesota at the time, income tax is 10% and I had to take a test just in order to buy a gun. It was about 15 yrs ago. Thats retarted, I think the ones that tell you not to talk politics are either liberals or communist and they don't want people to know the truth about how carzy that is.

It used to be that we were taught not to discuss politics and religion in a social setting. This was primarily because it was considered impolite to disagree about such very personal topics and it could/would lead to arguments - which, by the nature of the fact that "politics" and "religion" are essentially matters of faith (why DO we believe what we believe?), would not be subject to amicable settlement. This isn't to say that politics has ever been all that polite; certainly it's a myth that there has always been civility it political discourse, as others have pointed out.

I am pretty fast on the draw when it comes to talking politics.

I make many people angry and my wife has on more than one occasion stated that I opened a gun shop just so I could have a bigger soap box on which to stand.

Whenever I think about my mouth and how it independently operates sans a filter I am reminded of the Ron White line.

"I had the right to remain silent...but not the ability."

I to have a problem finding like minded folks in the settings I find myself in. It is painful to feel that alone in ones beliefs. The libs and socialists are everywhere and they do not think they are socialistic in their views. Drives me nuts so I just let it alone especially for getting accused of political incorrect behavior and near loosing my job. PC is a waiting trap to be sprung by the malcontent and insignificant people that it empowers.
We are all obsessed to a point or this forum would not exist.

The setting is Speedway and that may have something to do with it.:D

I pick and choose my battles when it comes talking politics. When I have political discussions with some people I just want to pull my hair out. So I just avoid it with them since I will never change their mind anyway.
Discussing politics with family gets even worse.
I grew up in a very conservative household but family outside of my parents and brothers are very frustrating to talk politics with.
I really get upset with family that live one way but their political views are completely contrary to the way they live and talk.
My uncle has a lot more guns than most of the people on this forum do but is thinks no average citizen should be allowed to have guns.
My grandmother and aunt think that taxes are stupid but in the same conversation will say that we should be paying more. How do you argue with people like that?

I feel comfortable talking politics with anyone. I've been in outside sales my whole life and I've had some great training over the years and it applies to any situation.

I'm also a trained Stephens Minister. As hard as it may be, it's important to not get emotional about the subject no matter how passionate you are. This is one reason I love INGO. I can just type my thoughts without really having to measure them much. It's a relief when you have to measure every word all day.

Just remember, a well placed question beats a well placed statement every time. Also, as much as you want the other person to have an open mind, you'll have to reciprocate. Doesn't mean you have to agree but you can listen to their point of view for more than just a way to say Ah Ha, GOTCHA!

What good does frustration do in the end? You get mad for 10 minutes then come right back to the place you started.

My family mirrors this. You can not argue with folks of that mindset. They are stuck and even a tractor will not budge them.
