i have been given one as a gift, yhis one is a pre-ban and is in a synthetic stock......i know guys have used these for competition builds. who in indiana is a good m1/m14 gunsmith? I want a GI Forged bolt installed and headspaced. (the polytech bolts are soft and loose headspacing) thinking of getting back into service rife competition.

I know this guy rebuilt an M1 Garand, pretty sure he fitted a new bolt.
Give him a call, he's up north close to South Bend -

Some have soft bolts and recievers. But others are just fine. You can have the receiver re heat treated if it is soft. I have owned two of them over the years and they were fine. The nice thing about them is that they are true forged receivers.

Not so fast. Don't discount your bolt until you have it checked. You could be spending several hundred you could use on other things. USGI bolts are crazy expensive now.
