I'm not sure what forum this should get posted in so I'll post it here. I have a Franchi ported double barrel and I was searching for new choke tubes. And found that there are ported choke tubes designed to slow down the wad and more consistently pattern the shot. Does a ported barrel do the same thing and would anyone advise using a ported choke with a ported barrel?

I don't think you would realize much benefit adding ported chokes if the barrels are already ported. Extended choke tubes can be beneficial as they don't choke the load down as quickly and can help prevent shot deformity and bounce.

I shoot a straight rifled Wad-Lock barrel on my 1100. What it does it completely eliminate any rotation of the shot column thus giving denser patterns with all chokes.

i have seen those type of chokes. one guy called his a "wad-stripper". it looked liked a turkey choke. it does nothing for muzzle jump. it is designed to control the wad only.

Thanks for your responses. I have decided to with the Briley extended chokes. It was suggested in a magazine article ( I don't remember which magazine) that all you need is skeet and modified chokes for skeet, trap, and sporting clays. Do you think there is that much difference in pattern between 25 and 40 yards to have all the variety of chokes?

I would go with sk-1 and sk-2 for skeet...cyl and ic will work just as well. Trap I normally use mod or mod and im for doubles. For sporting clays I generally go with ic and mod. Going a little more open with the chokes may help if you are starting out, may get you a couple more birds per round with chips but I like powdering them.
