Senator Joe Donnelly voted for shutting down. House Representative Andre Carson voted for shutting down. House Representative Pete Visclosky voted for shutting down. They voted to protect illegal aliens, as they suck on the teat of federal handouts. In the meantime, my friends, family, and neighbors in the military, don't get a paycheck, they don't get Armed Forces Network programming, they get the crap end of the stick while congress still gets paid.

This ain't your dad's democrat party.

Donnelly voted for the budget proposal along with 4 other Democrat senators. They were offset by 5 Republican senators that voted against it.

Wouldn't have mattered if they had gotten the 5 GOP votes as well. They still were under the 60 required since the Dems have an official filibuster on the CR. Not sure how much longer before Trump starts demanding they go nuclear.

    Nothing new.
What is new per wikiepedia is that this is the 1st time in is history that a shutdown occurs when one party controlls both branches of gov.

That is a bit inaccurate. The R's don't have 60 seats in the Senate. They may have a majority, but it is not a controlling majority.

Is there any national monuments or parks closed due to the shutdown?

I read that the Statue of Liberty was closed but should reopen on Monday.

Read a newspaper article this morning stating the Liberty Bell exhibit was shut down and currently guarded by a larger than normal contingent of exterior security to shoo prospective tourists and spectators away. It almost made it sound like they brought in xtra people to protect a building that couldn't be staffed due to shutdown.

Deal To Reopen Government Includes Medical Device Tax Suspension

...The deal Congress struck to reopen the federal government includes a break for medical device manufacturers.

The companies were poised to make their first 2.3 percent excise tax payments of the year next week. The bill Congress passed to reopen the government suspends the medical device tax for another two years, until January 2020. It goes into effect retroactively, starting with Jan. 1 of this year.

Lawmakers originally put the tax on hold in 2015, but it went back into effect at the beginning of this month after lawmakers failed to pass an extension.

The Indiana Medical Device Manufacturers Council represents many of the more than 150 companies that contribute to medical device manufacturing in the state. Spokesperson Hannah Carlock says the tax hinders innovation and growth.

“The last time that this tax was put in place, 29,000 people lost their jobs across America, and that impacted Indiana quite heavily,” she says...
