(BLOOMINGTON) - IU Police-Bloomington recovered 34 grams of marijuana and a stolen handgun during a search of a vehicle in a parking lot near Forest Quad on Tuesday at approximately 11 p.m.
Officers on foot patrol noticed the odor of marijuana emanating from inside a parked vehicle. Occupants of the vehicle were identified and a search of the vehicle was conducted. The loaded handgun was located in the center console of the vehicle. Evidence obtained indicated that the suspect was dealing marijuana.
The handgun, a 9mm Smith & Wesson, had been reported stolen in 2014, and is believed to be one of several firearms stolen during the robbery of a gun store in North Vernon, Indiana, in which the owner of the store was shot and killed. Those responsible for the robbery and murder were identified and arrested.
There is no evidence to indicate that the suspect in this IUPD case was involved with the robbery of the gun store. According to the suspect, the recovered weapon was purchased in Indianapolis.
IU student Jason Nguyen was arrested on charges of possession of the stolen firearm (level 6 felony), carrying a handgun without a license (A misdemeanor), dealing in marijuana (A misdemeanor), possession of marijuana

From everything I've read lately, he'll pay ~$150 to get out on a ~$1500 bond and 2 years from now, take a plea bargain deal for misdemeanor possession of marijuana with a slap on the wrist. Obviously we need more gun laws cause all good libs know that's the real problem.

    Could be anywhere
If he does see jail time the libs will claim it's for a first offence use of MJ too, not the other offenses. See, he was charged with a felony and went to jail just for using a little weed.

Well actually if they can prove intent to traffic he'll take a bigger hit. I don't remember if we have a charge for MJ dealing while in possession of a weapon (they do for harder drugs) but it will definitely alter a sentencing both from a jury or judge's perspective. It's not going to help his ability to plea either. If he does catch a felony Indiana went under new sentencing guidelines and many crimes are now stricter if they are considered "violent" which possession of a gun may qualify.

I believe that is the robbery where one of the perps was a FedEx/UPS driver who had delivered to the store a few times, the last one being a couple of days before the robbery. He brought his brother and cousin to help him. Wonder how many people had that pistol before Nguyen acquired it?

So let me get this straight, had the gun not been stolen, and if he had a LTCH, he only would have been charged with misdemeanor possession? What about having a gun and drugs together?
