I have a used Remington 1100 coming my way. I believe it has a 28" vent rib barrel (I bought it used on the fly so I'm not sure). I'm looking for an 18" barrel. Why can't I just saw the 28" barrel down to 18.5" and remove the vent rib.

you could just cut it off at the next "block" on the vent rib where it connects with the barrel. no problem either way i guess but a whole lot more work taking the vent rib off.

I would try and find another barrel so that you can keep the vent rib with the choke tube. If you do not have a need for it, you may be able to trade someone for it. That way you do not have to mess up a nice barrel. Good luck either way.
