What TV shows do you watch that make you think about your prep.

I love the walking dead for many reasons. It's very Hollywood, but I think really captures how people can act when placed against the ropes. I also watch a lot of CSI type shows and survival shows.

Let's just establish a baseline of the bloody obvious prepper TV fare:

    • Doomsday Preppers
    • Doomsday Bunkers
    • Doomsday Castle
    • Life After People
    • The Walking Dead
    • Dual Survival
    • Survivorman
    • Man vs. WIld
    • Man, Woman, Wild
    • Naked and Afraid
    • Naked Castaway
    • Beyond Survival
    • Survive This
    • Life Below Zero
    • Ultimate Survival Alaska
    • Alaska: The Last Frontier
    • Yukon Men
    • Mountain Men

After that, I like Modern Marvels (History) when they are discussing dead-tech, like Wild West Tech or Age of Steam Tech.

Extreme Couponing (TLC) can be very practical for preppers to learn from.

How It's Made can, from time to time, though rarely, feature some article of modern life that would be nice to have post-apocalypse, and knowing how it's made can illuminate how one might recreate it after all of the existing factories for it are destroyed.

PBS http://www.pbs.org/programs/ has actually had a few shows about taking modern families and having them live in a prepared compound where they only had technology from days gone by. The 1900 House and The Frontier House come to mind.

NatGeo View All Shows | TV Schedule for the National Geographic Channel has lots of other fare that if you think about it have survival import. When breaking into abandonned buildings, how do you find the stuff you're there to salvage? Abandoned is sorta American Pickers meets The Walking Dead minus the actual apocalypse. Inside: Secret America occasionally does shows that delve into the hidden aspects of American society, the aspects that the government might prefer people not understand in depth. Like PBS's fare, NatGeo has shows like American Colony: Meet the Hutterites, as well as their entry in the Amishploitation trend: Amish: Out of Order. Similar shows are Amish Mafia (Discovery) and Breaking Amish (TLC). Rocket City Rednecks can show how to use relatively primitive tools to make advanced technology. The Link can reveal how tech evolved in the first place, and so how it can be re-evolved post-apocalypse.

And, of course, there's all manner of guns and weapons shows that can be enlightening in one way or another: Lords of War (NatGeo), Sons of Guns (Discovery), Top Shot (History), God, Guns, and Automobiles (History) (marginally), American Guns (Discovery) (cancelled), Ted Nugent's Gun Country (Discovery) (cancelled), and Guntucky (CMT).

Discovery http://dsc.discovery.com/tv-shows has a show called Klondike coming in 2014 that looks to have the same appeal as the other far north living shows mentioned at the bottom of the list at the top.

I would also throw in a couple of shows that most preppers would think are a little off the wall for prepper fare: The Little Couple (TLC) and Little People, Big World (History), but think about it, if you're a prepper-come-lately and the apocalypse is a-poppin', you're very much gonna be trying to make your way in a world that's no longer made to order for you and your situations, much like little people do every day.

I don't yet get DIY, The Science Channel, The Military Channel, or The Outdoor Channel, but I surmise that if I did, there would be a lot of shows on those channels I could list as having prepper fare. Likewise, I get HGTV, but haven't watched it lately, so there is prolly a show or two there for discerning preppers.

Cathy any suggestions on which are the best? I've watched most of the Doomsday preppers but am getting a little tired of them - everyone on there now seems to not just be preppers but on the show to promote a business of some sort, or are just plain stupid...

Other than that I really don't watch much TV so I don't wanna burn my TV time up with the lesser of shows ;).

    Doomsday Preppers can be entertaining
    Revolution
    Walking Dead
    Man vs Wild
I'm loosing patience with revolution. Some very poor AR/M-16 handling and the guns don't smoke ( nor do the barrels) after full auto fire. If you fire an AR that much with no hearing protection, yer gonna be deaf! Course it's all Hollywood and supposed to be entertainment for the masses.
