Hey! I would like to start out I already own a rifle, but I am looking for a handgun. I am 20 - not 21. I also have a LTCH. I have a loose knowledge of private sales, and I though I should ask here before any sales be made for the sake of not accidentally breaking laws. It sucks but I like being a legal gun owner. So, is it legal for me to purchase a handgun via a private sale? If it is, let me know any legal issues that could come.

I thank the community for being knowledgable.

Since you have a license to carry a handgun here, in the great state of Indiana, that tells me, you are not a prohibited possessor. While you cannot purchase a handgun from a federal firearms licensee, you may legally purchase it in a private sale.

Caution: there are states that require you to be 21 to carry an handgun even with constitutional carry in that state and an Indiana license to carry a handgun. Also purchases across state lines require a transfer through an FFL.

I think that’s about got it.
