Not talking about a whole house heater, just one of those little two burner tank top units. Had it for over twenty years and it's served me well but this year the flame keeps backing down the supply tube which isn't a good thing. It does it on both burners although not simultaneously, and it will do it on a full bottle or a near empty bottle. Not knowing proper terminology the flame leaves the mesh grid and ends up burning right at the tip of the pipe that supplies the mesh area. Eventually it backs down the tube and sounds like a turbine engine firing off.

    Time to replace?
