Ok so i bought my first rifle ( not counting my 10-22 of course).my buddy and i were both i the market, both newbies to rifles. any way he picked up a savage 308 for around 350.i think its the axis model. and its a pretty nice rifle. but i found a ruger m77 in 30-06 at cabelas, it was traded in and on the used rack. has a houge overmoled stock doesnt appear to have been fired or handled much. i paid considerably more than he did , i gave at 599 but iam pretty happy with it so far. was wondering if any one had any expierience with these rifles, and if i wasted extra money and should have purchased the savage he did or if i made a wise investment. oh ya i used a 500. dollar gift card my wife gave me for xmas , she is pretty awesome.

Congrates on a great wife and the new rifle. I shoot 30-06 and love the round. Put some decent glass on it and reach out to touch something.

If YOU, are happy, then everything is ok ... 30-06, and .308, are both excellent rounds, if you reload, buy your bullets, in bulk, both rifles use .308 bullets... ENJOY !!!!!
