I quit a little over 3 months ago. The cravings sucked at first but once I noticed that each one passed after just a few minutes they got easier and easier to ignore.

    Good luck to you.

Altoids or other strong mints. Put a couple in your mouth, and take deep breaths (drags) to mimic taking a drag off a cigarette whenever cravings hit.

Drink lots of water to help flush the nicotine out of your body.

FYI, as your lungs start to recover / heal you will probably experience coughing for a few days as your body tries to clear out the crap in your lungs.

the process will only work with a complete lifestyle change...

    Learn what your "Triggers" are...
(Did you smoke in the car or after you ate... Find an alternative for what you did during those times...)

3 days clean and you have broken the physical addiction..

I quit 5 Years ago ...If I can do it (after 25 yrs ,2packs of camels a day )

    Anyone can ...Good luck :ingo:

Same here. I was smoking 1 1/2 to 2 packs of Kools a day. Thats equal to 3 packs of anything else. Quit on my birthday(planned in advance), cold turkey, in 1990.

You can only quit, if you want to quit. No need for spatches, etc. ;)

Thanks again every one. Still going strong. Almost lost it a couple hours ago....they say cravings only last a few minutes, I timed this one at 45 minutes long.. it was horrible.

Congrats bud! Ive been smoke free for almost 10 months now, an I quit cold turkey. You can do it, feel free to shoot me a PM if you need someone to talk to. That was one of the things that helped me was having friends to talk to about it that have been through it before.

I heard a report recently despite all the quitting aides like Nicoderm the highest percentage of people being able to successfully quit smoking were the one who went cold turkey.

Maybe that's because they saw and felt how horrible it is to go through and who in their right mind would want to do that more than once!

Well, im 48 hours in and haven't smoked! The only time I have made it through 3 days Was when I quit for a year, which was my longest. I understand the 3 rd day is the worst. Wish me luck. This post has really helped me. I know it may sound strange, but it has been a great place to come when I have urges ...

Keep it up! After the first few days are over each day gets easier than the one before it. It's been a little over 3 months for me and I don't have any cravings at all anymore. In fact, I can't stand the smell of it at this point.
I went to a company party this weekend which was held at a casino resort. I consumed my share of adult beverages and never had the urge to light up even for a second. Actually, I could barely stand to walk through the casino through all of the smoke.
