At least he's acknowledging reality, unlike many of his cohorts. It'll be interesting to see where this bill goes. No doubt the dems will try to kill it off on general principles, but large numbers of reps and their supporters will be out to kill this one, too. I have to wonder of this will signal a new direction for the gop on the issue, given the similar plan from Rubio.

I don't know... I think there is a large portion of the GOP that is going to push for Rubio and Rand to garner as much attention as possible.

They would be fools not to try and set them up for a 2016 run. What other hope do they have?

I think there's momentum building up behind Rand Paul and the new republicans in office. If you watch the main stream media you probably didn't notice it yet but McCain has formally appogized for his little comments about Rand Paul and the others during the filabuster.

I'm a Ron Paul guy, but I think there's a lot about Rand to like. He's not perfect, but this isn't a perfect world. He certainly stands a better chance of election to the white house than Mitt Romney ever did.

Ron was great and Rand is OK.

    BUT...

We slowly got where we are as a country, we will slowly have to go in the other direction. So there WILL HAVE TO BE COMPROMISE.

We need to get our feet in the door first and stay there, then start implementing change slowly. Gotta do the Frog in the pot in reverse.

Trying to do everything in 1 fell swoop would never fly.
We also have to change the masses minds or we will never improve things and keep them that way.

First thing we gotta do is get parents to be responsible and raise their kids. They have been indoctrinated into the current parental mindset, and it will take a lot to get them re-educated.

Second, we need to get the socialist ideas out of the schools. They have been indoctrinating the kids since I was a young'un. We gotta take back the schools, folks!

Look, folks are crying for change and they dont seem to know what that will mean with the current regime and dont think that some of the good things will change, not just the bad things.

We got change all right, change for the worse!

You kidding me? There are things in this country that are beyond fixing without catastrophe. We're steamrolling toward a cliff... applying light pressure to the break isn't going to change this country.

We can either pull the emergency break and try to throw it in reverse and hope we start to turn around... or we can wait until we crash into the bottom of the canyon... wipe the dirt and blood off of our face and try to scale the canyon walls and piece together whats left of our lives.

I simply don't foresee enough time on the clock for slow, steady change.

It seems to be the conventional wisdom now that the GOP needs to support citizenship for somewhere around 15-20 million people who vote over 70%+ for Democrats... Yeah, that makes a lot of sense.

If there's any reason to oppose citizenship for illegals, this is it.

If this isnt encouragement for illegal immigrants to come here i dont know what is. This is crazy that we are now rewarding people for breaking the law, while others wait for the gov't to say its ok if they come here. Why should anyone go through the process of becomeing a legal immigrant anymore?

Considering the ones who come here illegally get free health care, free basic education and reduced college tuition, housing benefits, food benefits, drivers license (in many states), and other perks, giving them citizenship is only one more handout courtesy of the United States taxpayers.

You never heard of Ronald Reagan have you?

He signed off on one of the most insane amnesty programs ever devised, don't act like this is new ground.

This is like saying it's too late to close the barn door because half the horses have ran off.

Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Bush, Obama... all of them violated their Oaths on this issue and exacerbated the issue.

Like social insecurity, this isn't an issue that will be pleasant to deal with, but at some point, it's going to happen. One way or another.

Would you rather it be addressed now, with some say in how it's done, or later by an E.O. from dear leader and friends just in time for the 2016 election?

And famously regretted it calling it one of the worst decisions he made as president.

As I have no doubt anything that happens with Dear Leader in office will be horrific and Republicans will race to betray us the best possible option seems to be to keep the issue on the burner and hope that somehow it will be dealt with by adults. And by adults I mean: secure the border and turn off the financial magnet through E-verify or some such.

If you think amnesty is a good idea just say so. I for one, with a lot of years experience working in kitchens all over the country with many, many illegals feel confident it would be a death knell for this nation.

Famously? The article claims he mentioned it to Ed Meese, but there is no word straight from the Ronnie's mouth. Meanwhile, Reagan's son says he would agree with the current plan...in the same article.

If he famously regretted it, he kept it very private, which is kind of at odds with being a "famous" statement isn't it?

Im all for a path to citizenship, so long as that path includes, rudimentary education (GED minimum), learning english and civil service.

I think it would be ideal in the major immigration cities to have small immigration conclaves or subdivisions, the children get free education, the families get free rent, the parents learn english and a trade, They work to improve our infrastructure and earn a wage that is not minimum wage $7.80+ an hour, and in 6 months or so they all stand before the stripes and with lady liberty as their witness they take the oath of citizenship..

By the end of the time they will have at least a high school education, be experienced and knowledgable in a profession or trade, have a small savings amount built up and be ready to be assimilated into the great melting pot that is America.
