I believe Fall is my favorite season. And nothing reaffirms my belief more than hitting the shooting range on a beautiful Fall afternoon with a group of my fellow INGOers. Spurred initially by another INGOer's request for some zeroing assistance, VUPDblue, shooter521, GunInfected1, MontereyC6, lovemywoods and I started looking at dates to get together for some mutual lead slingage. It just so happened that we were all available on the day before Halloween.

Although this was planned from the get-go as a "fun day" and not a "training day", we still wanted to define our time in order to get the most of it. Our goals were:

    • Function test shooter521's new Spike's build
    • Zero shooter521's Aimpoint and irons to his new Spike's build
    • Function test shooter521's new Surefire 60rd magazine
    • Function test VUPDblue's new SBR build
    • Zero VUPDblue's Aimpoint and irons to his new SBR build
    • Zero MontereyC6's Aimpoint
    • Review MontereyC6's new Colt Super-Stoc
    • Troubleshoot MontereyC6's rifle issue
    • Get more trigger time with esrice's SBR
    • Fam-fire with shooter521's Saiga 12
    • Launch golf balls with an AR golf ball launcher
    • Blow up some Halloween pumpkins with Tannerite
    • Eat some salad, ribs, baked potatoes, yeast rolls, and apple pie with ice cream
Everyone arrived at lovemywoods' property and range in beautiful Brown County around 2 in the afternoon. After some catching up we loaded up the ATV cart with goodies.

shooter521 kicked things off with putting the first rounds through his latest AR build-- a custom job using some new parts from Spike's Tactical, Daniel Defense, and BattleComp. It ran without a hitch, and the smell of hot Slip2000 was soon filling the air.

Then it was time to zero his Aimpoint.

Then of course the rest of us got a chance to shoot it. :yesway:

We also got the opportunity to test out Surefire's new 60rd magazine. While its an interesting design and idea, you'll see in later videos that its reliability didn't rise above that of what I would personally consider a novelty item.

Next up was VUPDblue with his new patrol SBR, a 10.5" LMT custom build. It ran like a top and he was also able to get his Aimpoint and BUIS zeroed.

Then it was time for VUPDblue to stretch things out a bit by shooting at a 66% steel IPSC target from Bobcat Steel that was 211 yards away.

At this point the 200yrd shot became the standard challenge.

After everyone had their gear squared away we headed down to the pistol range. Here was the setup.

Another piece of new gear was brought by MontereyC6-- Colt's new Super-Stoc. Overall I was very impressed as it has many features that I like about my Magpul CTR stocks. The locking mechanism was very strong and made it feel like a solid stock. At $75 I expect them to give the CTR some good competition. I'm glad to see a manufacturer finally put a good stock on their factory guns.

From there we went to an open shoot, with everyone sharing some really cool toys.

Let this be a lesson to all of you who think using birdshot in your defensive shotgun is a good idea. . . .

Next we got out a neat little toy that was provided by INGOer Yukon227-- an AR-15 golf ball launcher! The tube simply screws onto the end of an AR barrel in place of the flash hider, filled with a single golf ball, and then shot using a .223 blank. We had NO idea what we were getting into, but you can tell by our school-girl giggling that it was FUN!

And what fun day at the range doesn't include Tannerite? Being October we thought it would quite fitting to explode a few pumpkins!

    [ame]http://youtu.be/ChPaA2jYlnU[/ame]

    [ame]http://youtu.be/z8JjRoKbai8[/ame]

The pumpkins exploded so completely that the only thing left was some splatter.

Our range time was finalized with a few ceremonial mag dumps, which completely slaughtered our poor bunny. :(

    [ame]http://youtu.be/GnrfNrpXQOA[/ame]

With big grins and empty tummies we headed back up to the house where lovemywoods treated everyone to his famous BBQ ribs.

Thinking of those who couldn't be with us yesterday, namely lovemachine and bigcraig, we had to snap just one more picture. :D

I want to thank lovemywoods for hosting yet another fantastic range day, and my fellow INGOers for taking the time to come down and have some fun. A special thanks goes to Mrs. lovemywoods for helping in the food prep and making sure that everyone left with full bellies. I hope that everyone reading this feels at least a little bit like they shared in the day's activities with us. :yesway:

    Right here.
Looks like everyone had a terrific day...loved the tannerite and punkins and the golf ball shooter!

Wonder if I'd get in trouble if I carried that in my bag instead of a driver? Do you suppose Salt Creek Golf Course would allow that? I wondered where that Top Flite came from I found in my backyard!! ;')

Another Great AAR esrice! Thanks again to LMW's and family for another fun, safe day. It was nice getting some "fun" trigger time through the rifle, I can't wait til next time! Also, if you listen to that last video of Shooter521 shooting the tannerite, you can here the pumpkin raining down for a good 5-8 seconds afterward! :D

Fantastic AAR, was most interested in the above and the birdshot-on-pumpkin demonstration. <1/4" penetration really says something!

I didn't see your explanation of the above? Mind saying a few words on it? At this point my AR is just a pipe dream but this certainly was a part of it.
