Hoped on the news sites tonight and came across this load of crap:

FOXNews.com - Reid Compares Opponents of Health Care Reform to Supporters of Slavery

Reid Compares Opponents of Health Care Reform to Supporters of Slavery
    FOXNews.com
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid took his GOP-blasting rhetoric to a new level Monday, comparing Republicans who oppose health care reform to lawmakers who clung to the institution of slavery more than a century ago.

Dec. 6: Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid talks to the media after the Senate Democratic caucus that President Obama attended on Capitol Hill in Washington (AP).

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid took his GOP-blasting rhetoric to a new level Monday, comparing Republicans who oppose health care reform to lawmakers who clung to the institution of slavery more than a century ago.

The Nevada Democrat, in a sweeping set of accusations on the Senate floor, also compared health care foes to those who opposed women's suffrage and the civil rights movement -- even though it was Sen. Strom Thurmond, then a Democrat, who unsuccessfully tried to filibuster the Civil Rights Act of 1957 and it was Republicans who led the charge against slavery.

Senate Republicans on Monday called Reid's comments "offensive" and "unbelievable."

But Reid argued that Republicans are using the same stalling tactics employed in the pre-Civil War era.

"Instead of joining us on the right side of history, all the Republicans can come up with is, 'slow down, stop everything, let's start over.' If you think you've heard these same excuses before, you're right," Reid said Monday. "When this country belatedly recognized the wrongs of slavery, there were those who dug in their heels and said 'slow down, it's too early, things aren't bad enough.'"

He continued: "When women spoke up for the right to speak up, they wanted to vote, some insisted they simply, slow down, there will be a better day to do that, today isn't quite right.

"When this body was on the verge of guaranteeing equal civil rights to everyone regardless of the color of their skin, some senators resorted to the same filibuster threats that we hear today."

That seemed to be a reference to Thurmond's famous 1957 filibuster -- the late senator switched parties several years later.

Reid's office stood by the remarks, with spokesman Jim Manley saying Republicans have "done nothing but obstruct health care" in the Senate.

"Today's feigned outrage is nothing but a ploy to distract from the fact they have no plan to lower the cost of health care, stop insurance company abuses or protect Medicare," Manley said.

But Republicans said they were genuinely appalled. Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, said Reid's remarks were over the top.

"That is extremely offensive," he told Fox News. "It's language that should never be used, never be used. ... Those days are not here now."

Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., who on the Senate floor read from this FoxNews.com article and asked that it be placed in the record, called on Reid to return to the floor and, if not apologize, at least explain what he meant.

Sen. Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga., suggested Reid was starting to "crack" under the pressure of the health care reform debate.

"I think it's beneath the dignity of the majority leader," Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., said. "I personally am insulted."

aside from being another "if you're against the Democratic party's and Mr. Obama's principles and bills, then your racist" b#ll sh!t, I think we need to point out the utter failures in history where we rushed in too soon with out having a well thought out plan:

    prohibition
    social security
    medicare
    medicaid
the recent bailout fest, which is still on going
climategate, which is being swept under the rug
ACORN in the census (thank God now removed)
the list goes on and on.....

I would also venture to bet the Mr. Reid's family were slave owners ;) , since it was the Republican party that stirred that pot in the first place to abolish slavery.

Somebody needs to remind Mr Reid that it was his party that stood for slavery. His party leaders that tried to sink the civil rights movement. His party leaders who founded the KKK, and that in fact one of his senior party leaders still sitting in the Senate, a man revered by the Democratic leadership, that was a KKK recruiter.

He and his cronies were slavers in the past, and they are slavers now, trying to subjugate a new generation of Americans and put them under the whip.

I was unaware that the kkk was the radical militant wing of the democratic party. Funny now how the dems and libs want everyone to believe that was never the case, and now the very people they tried to keep underfoot all those years ago are the very same people voting for them today as a badge of honor.

Reed will say and do anything to pass health reform. He is not scared to be voted out, he will still recieve his 197,000 salary for life. This is wrong!

Harry Reid may be the biggest liar in history of the senate.

His ties to Jack Abrmoff and insiting it was a Republican scandal.
    His defense of Acron crooks.
    His ties to Soros.
He loves to tell how he "cleaned up of Vegas" , all the while he had close ties to organized crime figures.
His familys lobbying income of millions.
    And on and on.

No wonder he is the top dirtbag Democrat in the Senate.

good read hotdoger, being in the WSJ even the libs had to have read it, but must be vehemently denying it. How could the ones who brought forth the "ONE" be the very people who stood for racial injustice for over one and one half centuries?

They brought forth the "one" so that they can continue with their lies.

He is a "caricature" of what they think a "blackman" should be.
