Thoughts on the Nikon Prostaff 3 Range Finder?

Looking for a sub $300 unit. Doesn't need bow calculations.

    Any suggestions?

For under $300 bucks, that is pretty good. THe basic one from Vortex optics is another good one, I think it's just over $300, but I might be wrong.

The BIG questions that will really change price points are:
How FAR do you want to range? (250 yds? 400 yds? 600 yds? 1000 yds?, etc.)
do you want/need any compensation, like angle/incline calibrations, or just raw distance?

Found out the hard way my first hunt in Wyoming that some laser range finders won't shoot through mesh. My recommendation - what I did - go to Bass Pro/Cabelas and get the sales man/woman to let you shoot through the mesh of one of the ground blinds set up. The cheapest one in the case that would let me do it was a Leupold - right around that three bills number.
