    My wife has a Ruger MkIII Hunter that previously had a BSA red dot mounted on it. It was OK, but I'm considering a better red dot or a low power scope.

    The problem I had with the dot was that while holding the gun still, I could move my head and the dot would wander around the target at 25 yards. Wouldn't a scope be more accurate?

    I'm willing to spend about $150 and weight is a big consideration.

    I say the red dot.
    They are accurate out a good distance without the scope,
    yet dead on up close with the dot.

    Edit. Your wife has made an excellant choice in a firearm.
    Maybe not the only one but the one being discussed in outstanding.

    i agree with this too. you can look into some higher grade red dots that would be better. i suggest looking in to Bushnell model number 73-0132p it is a cross between a red dot and a standard scope. it sells for around 196. we have one in stock and use it as a demmo on our SBR but you can use it on hand guns as well.

    So if the red dot moves arround when you adjust you head as you aim, is this due to it being a cheap red dot scope, or is this just how red dot scopes work?

    that's a good one too... the model i gave has the red green option along with it is a variable reticle. look them both up and compare them for the application you want it for.
    Ether way bushnell has great optics for reasonable prices

    Are you sure the dot was moving on the target and not just on the lens?
    A dot without magnification should not shows signs of parallax.
    At 25 yards
    Accuracy = scope
    Speed = dot
    Midway currently has C More dots on sale. Highly recommended.

    I've mounted up a NcStar multi recticle scope on my MkIII. Not the hightest quality scope out there by a LONG shot, but it works great. I figured the recoil is so slight on a .22 it should last quite a long time. I've also noticed that the dot is not moving off target by moving your head when aiming, it just appears that way. At least that's been my experience.

    Your best bet is to go to Midwayusa website and search the red dots.Most of them have customer reviews on them and that should help you make a good decision.I would recommend one with rings instead of a built in mount.Several are made by the same manufacturer with other names on them(Ultradot-Adco-Millet-etc.)Try to get a 3 moa dot or smaller for target shooting.I have always had good luck with the Adco E-dot 30mm.If you find on you like but not the price go to Ebay and search.
